I don't like "SUSHI"

Last week, I went to the gym. In my gym, there're some trainers who teach members how to exercise. While I was working out, one trainer talked to me. He taught me some exercises such as abdominal and stretching.

Suddenly, he asked me "Where are you from?"
I answered "Japan".
Then he said "Oh, Japan! I like SUSHI! Can you make SUSHI?"

There's only one thing that I learned here. When I say "I'm from Japan", everybody except Asian people ask me "Can you make SUSHI?"

OK, I know that SUSHI is popular and famous here, but it doesn't mean Japanese equal SUSHI. I'm Japanese, but I'm not SUSHI. If you really like Japan, you should ask me more JAPANESE things than SUSHI.

That kind of mistake is sometimes funny, sometimes rude. Actually, I don't like to be compared with food. I'd feel better if I was compared with cars, computers or something technorogical, OR temples, shrines or something cultural. Please don't call me SUSHI!! :-)

Have you ever had the same experience as me?

That is kinda funny. :) Actualy its very sad but people dont know much about Japan except what is in the general culture here... so I guess that means sushi, manga/anime and martial arts and that is about it. Its a shame I think.

yeah i agree with eric. other than sushi, the famous japanese cuisine among foreigners are Tempura, Soba and Sukiyaki i guess.
