Who Is The Real Buddha?

Yesterday, my friend asked me "Is this Buddha, right?" while she's pointing a small statue of Fat Man. I didn't understand at first, "What is she talking about?" According to her, most of Mexican believe he is Buddha.. I thought it's completely wrong! In Japan, we call him "Hotei-Son", I think he is one of the gods of Buddhist (I'm not sure), but he is NOT Buddha! Why do Mexican believe he is Buddha? Does anybody know??

He is 布袋尊 (Hotei-Son) in Japan
But, He is Buddha in Mexico

I found articles about Buddha and Hotei in Wikipedia. Please check it out.

I was very surprised and interested when I heard about Buddha in Mexico. Asia is quite far from America, so sometimes the culture come down to with wrong contents. I don't know who is the real Buddha in other Buddhist countries.. But I believe he is Buddha!!

He is Buddha, isn't he?

Wow, Thank you for teaching me somthing. I also was not aware that the Buddha I knew was not realy Buddha. I think its important to clear misconseptions like that or else someone can get very embarased if they travel to a country whom's culture reflects an other truth than what the person though.

Thank you for your comment, Eeric.
I think Japanese would believe wrong things about Western culture, vice versa. For example, Christmas, Halloween and something like that..
